What parts of the Retreat were the most valuable/useful to you?
- The guest speakers were inspiring. I feel like I can use what they said in class. (Dave Kammeyer and Glenn Mc.Intyre were the Keynote and Guest Speakers respectively)
- The interactions between myself and the other conferees. Loved Glenn McIntyre's talk.
- The TOP conference and the hands on rocket fun.
- I realize that I knew very little about things involving people with disabilities.
- Those sessions, I can apply to my elementary (kinder) classroom and new contacts I made.
What parts of the Retreat were the least valuable/useful to you?
- Seemed to be geared toward moving into the work place. Need more middle school activities.
- Presentations not really fitted towards elementary education.
Were some parts overemphasized? Underemphasized?
- Probably some sessions need more time to discuss their topic.
- I would like to a teenage disabled student do one of the speeches so that more teachers can hear from them the challenges that they face.
- It would be great to have real conversations about lack of motivation in SPED students and ways to deal with it in the classroom.
What topics would you like to see added?
- Sessions broken down by what level of students they will be addressing.
- I would like to see more materials and guidance that I can take directly to the middle school classroom. Most sessions did not have handouts on materials.
- Show the teachers how these modifications can help a child to overcome their needs.
- Some classes/ seminars that focus on elementary education. Hands on Science and/ or math activities for teachers!!
- Biology- since it is required to graduate from high school. Also – algebra and geometry?
- Extend to all day Thursday so overlapping is less (offer same class in am/ pm, so half the group goes in the am and the other half goes in the pm, or something like that)
- More practical applications on implementing the best practices in the classroom and overcoming the challenge of student apathy in SPED and regular students.
- More description for each session. Much more hands on, take home activities or session. More ideas for math/ science activities for K – 6th grade students. How can the teacher adapt student activities for physically challenged students?
- More “hands on” examples – making rockets was great!! (Thanks so much to my coach – he was very helpful)
Additional Comments:
- I was disappointed when I did not get to see the posters. By 3:00, they were taken down and it was scheduled to be available until 5:00.
- Please give more info about Saturday session – I have no idea what TOP workshop is, nor could anyone tell me Friday afternoon.
- It would be nice if agenda/ schedule noted who the presentation was geared towards (e.g. higher learning, elementary teachers, students, etc.)
